GUATEMALA: Spanish court to probe rights violations

Spain's highest court has responded positively to a request by Guatemala's Nobel peace prize winner Rigoberta Menchú to investigate human rights violations perpetrated in Guatemala between 1978 and 1986. The constitutional court ruled that cases of genocide committed abroad could be judged in Spain regardless of whether Spanish citizens were involved.
